Businesses Donate Cars For Extrication TrainingWhen a firefighter arrives on the scene of a car accident, it’s imperative that they free the victim as quickly as possible from the wreckage. That’s why extrication training is so important, according to Hendersonville Fire Department Division Chief Gabe Hannah.

Hannah was on hand Wednesday when local firefighters practiced their skills at Rivergate Body Shop. The local business donated five vehicles to the department as well as food for the firefighters during their three-day training.

Hannah said the department trains at least once a year to make sure firefighters are prepared for what they often encounter on Main Street or Vietnam Veterans Boulevard. He added the practice is important because car manufacturers add high-strength metal to cars each year that makes them more difficult to cut with conventional metal.

Rivergate Body Shop co-owner Don Roberts said his business is happy to help the department.

“People don’t have a clue that they need to rehearse this,” he said. “The more practice these guys get, it could definitely save someone’s life.”

Another local business, James Auto Body, has also donated two vehicles for extrication training, according to Chief Scotty Bush. (tennessean.com)
